Fractions -- We will cover Least Common Multiples, Greatest Common Factor, Distributive Property, and Fraction Operations.
Computation -- We will explore adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with rational numbers. We will also learn about decimals and exponents.
Number Line -- We will discover the number line (especially the left side of zero) and explore absolute value and opposites.
Expressions -- We will learn everything we need to know (at least for 6th grade) about what an expression is and how they are useful. We will also discuss properties of expressions and equivalent expressions.
Equations & Inequalities -- In this unit we will dive into some algebra and mix numbers with letters. This is everyone's favorite unit. NOT! We will discover how we use Algebra to answer problems and learn the process for solving. We will also discover how an answer can be more than one number in math and how we show that answer when it happens. This unit will challenge you, but you are going to feel SO smart when you are finished!
Coordinate Plane, Area, & Surface Area -- We will learn all four pieces of the coordinate plane and how to plot points on it. We will create shapes on the plane and discover the area of the shapes. Then we will learn about three-dimensional shapes and discover how to find the surface area of those figures.
Volume -- In this unit, we will discover how much water is needed to fill a fish tank, how much soup is needed to fill a soup can, how much sand is needed to fill a sandbox, and how much water is needed to fill an ice cube tray.
Ratios & Proportions -- We will learn all about shopping in this unit! We will discover how to figure out the best buys, how to know the price of something even when there's no sticker, and how to convert to other types of currency.
Data Collection -- In this unit we will learn about taking surveys, reading types of data, and showing our data in several different ways.
